Tongue River Winery is seeking a master winemaker.

Candidate must have a B.S. in enology and at least four months experience in working with hybrid grapes and wine. Candidate must be willing to live on site in Miles City, Montana. Job duties include: Determining ripeness parameters in the vineyard and orchard. Harvest at appropriate chemistry, process grapes and other fruit with all chemical preparations necessary for fermentation including yeast and bacterial ferments. Determine and manage wine additions, blending, aging including barrel aging, wine stability management including malolactic testing, sulfur dioxide measurement and management, readiness for bottling, testing for alcohol with ebulliometer, sugar, pH, brix, temperature and phenolic compounds. Must be able to test for volatile acidity. Prepare new and used barrels including cleaning and storing. Prep bulk wines for bottling including stylistic determinations. Bottle, label wines ready for sale. Manage all cleaning protocols, including disposal of organic waste products. Manage vineyard for protection against insect and bird damage. Understand and apply protocols for proper product labeling requirements. Maintain supply of necessary ingredients, chemical additives and chemical testing agents.

EQUIPMENT USED: various fruit presses, crush-destemmer, pallet jacks, wine pumps, wine filler, corking machine, labeling machine, PC computer and software.
